Two nabbed in Maasin for violating the gun ban
Camp Francisco U. Sumagaysay, Sr., STA. BARBARA, ILOILO, January 25 -- Two persons were arrested by Maasin MPS at about 11:30 in the evening of January 24, 2016 for Violation of RA 10591 and B.P 6 and Violation of COMELEC resolution 10015 or the COMELEC Resolutions on the Ban on the Bearing of transporting of firearms and other deadly weapons.
The PNP team arrested Joven Montefrio y Mandate, 46 yers old, married and a resident of Roxas Street, Maasin Iloilo and Roland Madarico y Macaya, 39 years old, married and a resident of Barangay Nagba of this municipality after a radio call was received by this Office that there was a commotion at the wake of the late Roque Calambro situated at Roxas Street, Maasin, Iloilo.
Upon arrival at the area, Brgy Kagawad Siccio informed the responding PNP personnel that the suspects in the said commotion already fled upon sensing that the police are coming. However while the police were conducting investigation, PO3 Alvin Dela Cruz spotted in plain view a person later identified as Joven Montefrio possessing a bladed weapon tucked on his waist with the handle and the scabbard exposed on his waistline while he was sitting on the chair under a canopy. He was immediately disarmed and arrested by PO3 Dela Cruz. On the other hand, PO2 Ariel Maderista also caught on the act one person later identified as Roland Madarico drawing a firearm from his waist and attempted to conceal the same under the table which they are using to play card games. Arrested persons were informed the nature of their offense and apprised of their constitutional rights under Miranda Doctrine.
Recovered from the possession and control of Joven Montefrio was one (1) butcher knife with scabbard measuring ten (10) inches long from tip to handle while recovered from Roland Madarico was one (1) Caliber .20 pistol (break type) loaded with one ammunition in its chamber.
Arrested persons and recoveries are now under the custody if this police station for proper disposition prior filing of charges against them in court.
The arrest of the suspects is in line with the intensification of Maasin PNP’s fight against loose firearms and other deadly weapons and part of the security preparation for the upcoming national and local elections.###
