Test Road Checks Nets Hundreds of Violators

Camp Francisco U. Sumagaysay, Sr., STA. BARBARA, ILOILO, April 4 -- Iloilo Police Provincial Office caught hundreds of violators and impounded vehicles during the test implementation of road safety checks in random areas in the province of Iloilo.

In random checks started on Monday, April 3, PNP personnel who were deputized by Land Transportation Office impounded 70 vehicles, 64 of which are motorcycles while 6 are 4-wheel vehicles for incomplete or lack of registration and plates.  One hundred twelve (112) Temporary Operator’s Permit (TOP) and 130 citation tickets were issued for violations ranging from non-use of helmet to driving without or with expired driver’s license.

Also among the violations are overloaded PUJs, tricycles and motorcycles plying the local roads and highways of the province.

IPPO Director Police Senior Superintendent Harold B. Tuzon warned the motoring public that IPPO will be strict in the implementation of RA 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code of the Philippines.

“This is just a test implementation of the law. In the coming days, expect more PNP personnel to conduct more road safety checks to ensure that the thrust of Governor Arthur Defensor and the PNP is carried,” Tuzon said.

Recently, 46 IPPO personnel were deputized by LTO to help in the implementation of RA 4136 as part of its mandate as member of Task Force on Road Safety of Iloilo LGU.  More personnel are expected to be deputized in the coming weeks.

“We are pushing this deputation not only to promote road safety but also to help us in or anti-criminality campaign in the province,” Tuzon added.

The Iloilo Provincial Government, through Governor Arthur Defensor recently created a Task Force on Road Safety in order to curb the alarming increase in road accidents which caused loss of lives and damage to property these past months.

The public is advised to always be in possession of their driver’s license and vehicle documents to avoid inconvenience while travelling.
